We hope you’ll join us on Tuesday, August 25 for the Third Annual Recovery Sports Grill Hall of Fame Classic to benefit Blessings in a Backpack for Upstate New York. The backpack program provides elementary school children who are on the federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Program with a backpack of food to take home for 38 weekends during the school year. Backpack food includes easy-to-prepare and ready-to-eat foods, like granola bars, juice boxes, macaroni and cheese, and oatmeal.
The event will feature a great day of golf at the Frear Park Municipal Golf Course in Troy, N.Y. and includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart rental, beer on the course, raffles, hole contests, a bagged lunch and an after party at Recovery Sports Grill in Troy with a buffet and complimentary drink tickets. There are more than 20 million children in this country who are at risk of hunger. The consequences of hunger are much more than a growling stomach. Poor nutrition can result in a weaker immune system, increased hospitalization, lower IQ, shorter attention spans, and lower academic achievement. Children are fed during the school week by federal government programs, but the Blessings in a Backpack program aims to make sure they’re getting nutritional meals over the weekend, too. It currently serves more than 76,000 children in 800 schools in 44 states and the District of Columbia. Your support of the Blessings in a Backpack for Upstate New York event would be most appreciated!
