The Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (TRIP), Inc. was created in 1968 to assist low- and moderate-income families in Troy achieve the dream of home ownership.  Since then, TRIP has grown into a comprehensive community development corporation with a mission of “connecting individuals and families with resources and knowledge to live in desirable homes and create vibrant sustainable communities.”
TRIP has grown to include more than 301 quality, safe, affordable apartments; a “one-stop shop” Homeownership Center that provides counseling, education and financial support to households in all stages of homeownership, including foreclosure; and an active community affairs department that brings together neighbors’ voices in development and planning whenever possible.  TRIP has become the trusted source for education and support for families striving to achieve the dream of safe, affordable housing and sustainable homeownership. TRIP maintains its presence in the very communities challenged by poverty, drugs, and absentee landlords when others feel there is no hope for their neighborhood.
For example, when TRIP was looking to take on additional rehab projects, it sought to purchase a building that was a source of neighborhood complaints and police visits for years.   TRIP decreased the density from four apartments to three, prioritized energy efficient design standards, created off-street parking, and substantially transformed this highly visible property into a lovely, safe, affordable and stabilizing factor in the neighborhood. TRIP accomplished its goal of creating a living environment that promotes investment of tenants’ time and energy in their neighborhoods. That’s what TRIP works to create, not only for its tenants but for the block as well.
You can support TRIP’s efforts to improve people’s lives, homes and communities by participating its upcoming New York State beer, wine, cider and spirits tasting event called “Take a Sip for TRIP.”  It will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy on Thursday, June 9.  Contact Gail Padalino for sponsorship and ticket opportunities at gail@triponline.org or (518) 272-8289 ext. 212.  Visit www.triponline.org for more information.
